We often keep food items in the refrigerator to increase their life, but  refrigerator is not suitable for every food item. Keeping some foods in the refrigerator reduces their taste, nutritional value, and natural properties, and in some cases, it can even pose a health risk. So lets understand what is healthy and what is not.

1. When cooked rice is kept in the refrigerator, its natural warming properties diminish. When rice cools down, it becomes heavy, sticky, and difficult to digest. Cooked rice provides energy to the body only when it is eaten fresh and warm. Even if refrigerated rice is reheated, its taste and nutrition do not remain the same. Sometimes, improperly stored rice can also cause stomach ache, indigestion, or food poisoning.

2. Do not refrigerate curd touched by a spoon or hand for extended periods, as it spoils quickly, risks bacterial contamination, and loses probiotic benefits. Curd is most beneficial when fresh, stored at room temperature, and consumed promptly.

3. Another such item is onion. When onions are kept in the refrigerator, their moisture content increases, causing them to become soft and rot quickly. Also, their natural taste and properties diminish. It is best to store onions in a dry and well-ventilated place.

4. We always keep tomatoes in the refrigerator. However, instead of doing that, they should be consumed soon after purchasing them. Keeping tomatoes in the refrigerator causes their skin to wrinkle, the pulp to become soft, and their natural taste to diminish. Tomatoes remain more flavorful and nutritious when stored at room temperature.

5. Avoid keeping honey in the refrigerator. Honey does not spoil when kept outside. Also, the refrigerator temperature reduces the nutritional value of honey. Therefore, honey should be stored outside.

6. Refrigerate cooked vegetables, pastes, chutneys, and other perishable items to prevent spoilage. However, avoid storing processed food in the refrigerator for more than two days to maintain optimal health. Consume fresh food and limit refrigerated storage to one or two days.
