Gujarat's Covid death toll rises over 1,300, cases cross 21K

Gujarat, which is witnessing an average of 30 deaths per day due to Covid-19 since last ten days, on Tuesday saw its toll reach 1,313 with 33 new fatalities, while with nearly 500 cases daily since the month's beginning, the number of coronavirus case in the state now stands at 21,044.

Nine days into June, the state has reported 4,250 new cases, with 470 cases on Tuesday.

The most worrying is that although Ahmedabad's contribution in the total positive cases is coming down from over 80 per cent to presently around 70 per cent, its death toll seems to remain steady.

Another issue of concern is that despite Ahmedabad's positive cases remaining steady, at around 250 to 300 daily, the virus is rising in other cities like Surat, Gandhinagar and in other districts like Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, and Aravalli.

The health authorities conducted a total of 5,298 RT-PCR tests across the state, out of which 470 cases were detected. The major contributor was Ahmedabad with 331, followed by Surat with 62, Vadodara with 32, Gandhinagar with eight, Sabarkantha with five, Anand with four, Bhavnagar, Panchmahals, Patan and Kheda in Amreli with three each, Rajkot, Bharuch and Valsad with two each and Mehsana, Banaskantha, Aravalli, Kutch, Junagadh, and Navsari with one case each.

Of the 33 fresh deaths, Ahmedabad reported 27, while two were from Surat and one each from Mahesana, Aravalli and Amreli.

Despite the share of Corona positive cases from Ahmedabad having come down to 71.09 per cent, the death toll rate of the city remained the same, at around 82 per cent. Till date, 1,066 have died in Ahmedabad, followed by 84 in Surat, 45 in Vadodara, 18 in Gandhinagar, 11 in Anand, 10 in Bhavnagar, eight each in Panchmahals, Aravalli and Mahesana and seven in Patan.

On Tuesday, a total of 409 patients were discharged. Till now, total 14,373, patients have been discharged in the state.

Of the total cases, Ahmedabad continued to lead the state with 14,962, followed by Surat with 2,208, Vadodara with 1,360, Gandhinagar with 432, Mahesana with 161, Bhavnagar and Banaskantha with 146 each, Rajkot with 133, Sabarkantha with 128, Aravalli with 120, Mahisagar with 116, Anand with 115, Panchmahals with 108, Patan with 106, Kheda with 93, Kutch with 91, Jamnagar with 66, Botad and Bharuch with 60 each, Valsad with 57 and Surendranagar with 56.

Health authorities has so far carried out a total of 2,61,587 tests in the state.

Of the total cases, 5,358 are active, out of which the condition of 5,299 is stable, whereas 64 critical patients are still on ventilator.

Right now, there are 2,09,673 people under quarantine where 2,03,050 are home quarantined and 6,623 in government facilities.
