As summer sets in, many people experience an increase in headaches. Stepping out into the scorching sun, a lack of water in the body, heat-induced fatigue, and dehydration can all trigger headaches. Sometimes the pain is mild, while at other times it becomes so severe that even performing daily tasks becomes difficult.  Therefore, it is crucial not to ignore headaches caused by the heat but to address them with timely remedies. The simplest and most effective remedy for heat-induced headaches is to stay hydrated by continuously drinking water. It is essential to consume plenty of water throughout the day. Beyond just water, consuming beverages such as buttermilk, lemon water, or coconut water helps keep the body cool and alleviates headaches. When the body suffers from a water deficit, it places strain on the brain, leading to headaches; thus, maintaining proper hydration is the most critical factor.

Applying a cold compress to the forehead is also highly effective in relieving headaches. Soaking a cloth in cold water and placing it on the forehead or neck helps lower body temperature and provides relief. For some individuals, applying rose water or sandalwood paste also offers a cooling sensation and helps reduce pain. Among home remedies, gently massaging the head with oil is also beneficial. Massaging the scalp using coconut oil or sesame oil improves blood circulation and aids in alleviating headaches. Particularly during hot weather, simply sitting in a quiet, cool place for a while with your eyes closed to rest and relax can also provide significant relief.

Diet also plays a role in headaches. Consuming excessively spicy, oily, or heavy foods can increase body heat and intensify headaches. Therefore, one should opt for a light, easily digestible, and cooling diet. Consuming fruits with a high water content—such as cucumbers and watermelons—proves beneficial.

Protecting one's head when venturing out in the sun is equally important. Using a hat, scarf, or umbrella provides protection against direct sunlight and reduces the likelihood of developing a headache. Furthermore, it is advisable to avoid going outdoors during the intense heat of the afternoon whenever possible.
