Due to constant fluctuation in weather many people are getting cough and cold frequently. This change in weather is difficult for many to tolerate, leading to problems like colds, coughs, and phlegm. Young children are particularly susceptible to these problems. When children have a cold, cough, or chest congestion, parents often avoid giving them cold foods. Bananas are often the first food to be avoided in such cases.

Many believe that eating bananas worsens colds and coughs, while others confidently state that it doesn't cause any problems. Let's see what the truth is.

Should you avoid giving bananas to young children when they have a cold, cough, or phlegm?

Doctors say that a cold or cough is a type of viral infection. As the infection in children gradually decreases, the cough or cold also subsides. It cannot be definitively said that eating bananas or any other fruit keeps the infection in the body, or that eating bananas causes a cold or cough.

Therefore, do not stop giving bananas to your children just because they have a cold or chest congestion. However, if your child is allergic to any component of bananas, then consult a doctor to decide whether or not to give them bananas, according to information published by Aaj Tak, based on Dr. Saurabh Kataria's statement.

Experts also say that bananas are a fruit with a cooling effect, and therefore should not be eaten when one has a cold. However, this has not been conclusively proven in any study in medical science. On the contrary, during a cold, cough, or any viral infection, appetite decreases. In such cases, giving bananas provides plenty of energy and prevents weakness. Therefore, if your children or you can tolerate it, there is nothing wrong with eating bananas when you have a cold.
