Jerusalem, June 10 Israel's Ministry of Health has reported the country's fourth case of monkeypox.

The infected is a 28-year-old man who recently returned from abroad and arrived at the Sheba Medical Centre in central Israel with symptoms of the viral disease, according to the Ministry.

A clinical sample was later tested at the Israel Institute for Biological Research, where the suspicion of monkeypox was verified, Xinhua news agency quoted the Ministry as saying.

The previous three cases of monkeypox in Israel have been detected since May 21, all of whom are men in their 30s.

The Ministry again called on those who developed fever and blistering rash and returned from abroad or were near a person who is suspected of being infected to see a doctor.

Monkeypox is common in wild animals like rodents and primates, and can also infect humans.

Symptoms of the disease include skin rashes, fever, headache, muscle ache, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion.

The rash eventually forms scabs, which later falls off, indicating that the person is no longer infectious.
