Bhubaneswar, Sep 20 Odisha has reported 4,330 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike so far taking the state's total tally to 1,79,880, said a state health official on Sunday.

The Covid-19 death toll increased to 701 in the state with 10 new fatalities in the last 24 hours.

While Cuttack and Puri districts reported two deaths each, one each died in Balangir, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Khordha, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur districts, the official said.

Of the total fresh cases, 2,556 have been reported from different quarantine centres while 1,774 were local contacts.

Khordha district recorded the highest 644 fresh cases followed by Cuttack (549) and Puri (292).

The number of active cases in the state rose to 37,469 and 1,41,657 patients have recovered so far.
