While the threat of monkeypox and Zika has not yet subsided, another virus has raised concerns. The name of this virus is Oropouche, also known as sloth fever. It has been found in some Americans. Doctors are advising caution.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, cases of this virus have been reported in Barbados. Doctors have advised people to wear full clothing.

What is Oropouche virus and how does it spread?

Oropouche is a viral infection that is spread through mosquito bites. Oropouche virus causes flu-like symptoms such as fever and body aches. Most people do not develop any serious problems from it, but in some cases it can cause swelling in the brain. Symptoms begin to appear in an infected person 3-10 days after infection.

Symptoms of Oropouche

  1. Fever
  2. Headache and body aches
  3. Fatigue and weakness
  4. Muscle and joint pain
  5.  Nausea and vomiting
  6.  Dizziness

Dangers of Oropouche virus

The Oropouche virus can cause swelling of the brain. Also, if pregnant women are infected with it, their children can have congenital diseases. There is currently no cure for this. Therefore, there is a need for greater care.
