Islamabad, Sep 11 With the emergence of 548 new coronavirus cases in Pakistan, the country's overall tally increased to 300,371 on Friday, the Health Ministry said.

The country also recorded five fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide death toll to 6,370, reports Xinhua news agency.

According to the Ministry, Sindh province is the most affected with 131,404 cases, followed by Punjab province with 97,533 cases.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province reported 36,823 coronavirus cases.

A total of 15,832 cases have been recorded in the federal capital Islamabad, and 13,282 in Balochistan province.

Overall, Pakistan has 5,795 active Covid-19 cases, while 288,206 infected people have recovered.

The country has conducted 29,534 coronavirus tests over the last 24 hours, the Ministry said.

To control the disease spread, the government had imposed strict lockdown in March and April, and later "smart lockdown" in hotspots in the following months.

After a consistent drop in new cases, it has lifted the lockdown from most of the sectors, and the educational institutions across the country are also expected to reopen in phases from September 15.

The government also directed the public to keep on following the standard operating procedures to avoid another wave of the pandemic.
