Moscow, Dec 31 Russia registered 27,747 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nation's tally to 3,159,297, the country's Covid-19 response centre said on Thursday.

The centre also reported 593 more fatalities, bringing the nationwide death toll to 57,019, reports Xinhua news agency.

With the new tallies, Russia currently accounts for the fourth highest caseload after the US, India and Brazil, while the death toll is the eighth largest in the world.

Meanwhile, 28,922 more patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the national count to 2,554,340.

Covid-19 cases reported in the capital Moscow increased by 6,566 to 809,769.

So far, more than 90.6 million coronavirus tests have been conducted across the country.

Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said Tuesday individuals already vaccinated against COVID-19 will receive electronic immunity passports in January.

Due to concerns over a new fast-spreading coronavirus strain detected in Britain, the Russian authorities have extended the suspension of flights to and from the UK until January 12, 2021.
