Six of a family test Covid-19 positive in Delhi

An Assistant Sub Inspector of Delhi Police and six persons of a family living nearby, including an 11-month-old boy, have tested positive for coronavirus, the police said on Thursday.

New Delhi, April 23 An Assistant Sub Inspector of Delhi Police and six persons of a family living nearby, including an 11-month-old boy, have tested positive for coronavirus, the police said on Thursday.

The family members, living in Shahdara, tested last week after a 67-year-old man from the family died on April 11 and was found positive for coronavirus.

"The area was made a containment zone on April 16. Medical tests of some of the residents of the area were conducted on April 17," the police said in a statement.

Gali No. 3, 4 and 5 of East Ram Nagar were made containment zone on April 16.

Now, among the people, seven have tested positive. Among these, six persons belong to the family of the 67-year-old man who died on April 11.

The seventh person in the list is an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in Delhi Police, posted in the Missing Person Cell.

Speaking to , the ASI said that while he knew the family, he was not in touch with them.

"I knew about the family but we were not interacting. I got tested for Covid-19 on Friday and the report came today. In the afternoon, I was taken to the quarters in the Mandoli Prison," the ASI told .

He also said that while he was brought to the centre, there was no proper arrangement for sleeping. He also said that there were mosquitoes in the centre.

"I have been kept in a room and after six hours, I was given a cup of tea. I even asked if I can get a bed from my home as I have a spinal issue, but they refused and have not offered me a proper bed yet," he said.

On contracting the infection, the ASI said it must be from his workplace.

"I have had fever since March 30 and also visited the doctor. I was being treated for typhoid. I think I got the infection from my workplace," he said.

On being asked if his colleagues or family members have been tested or asked for quarantine, he said he did not have any idea.

About 2,250 people across the city have tested positive coronavirus so far.
