Srinagar, April 13 Srinagar administration has decided to allow some groceries and shops selling essentials to open in parts of the city as part of a response system following the complete lockdown enforced in March.

Srinagar DC Shahid Choudhary told that the move has been taken to ease the difficulties of people in Srinagar.

"We have been getting a lot of distress calls, so we have decided to allow some groceries and a few stores selling essentials to open in order to reduce the pressure," Choudhary said.

He said that a government representative will be present in all such stores to ensure that social distancing protocols are followed.

The city has been divided into 25 zones. Earlier, some select outlets were designated for home delivery in Srinagar.

Choudhary said that after the imposition of lockdown in Srinagar, new challenges are coming up on a daily basis.

"Right now we are working with 15-20 per cent of officials on ground, be in power supply, water supply or any other essential service except for healthcare," Choudhary said.
