Agartala, April 10 Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday said that the state government had discussed with investors to set up a Homeopathy Medical College in Tripura.

Addressing the World Homeopathy Day 2025 function at Prajna Bhavan here, the Chief Minister said that homeopathy treatment has been facing challenges for a long time.

“We must overcome such challenges. We are trying to set up a Homeopathy Medical College. I myself visited the state hospital for Homeopathy. Some investors from outside the state came for this, and we have asked them to set up one Homeopathy Medical college,” said Saha, who holds the home portfolio.

He added that the journey of Homeopathy started from West Bengal, and from there it spread across the country, adding that people of Tripura also used to visit West Bengal for Homeopathy treatment.

“In Tripura, there are some issues in Homeopathy treatment. It needs massive publicity and outreach. We have to highlight the success stories. There are many Homeopathy doctors who have gained a good name in the state, but people are not aware of the success stories,” he said.

Saha, who is also a dental surgeon, said that Homeopathy can’t give an immediate solution but is helpful in the long term, adding that there are many patients who don’t need surgery but are cured due to Homeopathy.

“After 2014, when Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, Homeopathy was given special attention, which was neglected for years,” he claimed.

Homeopathy came under Ayush along with Unani and Ayurveda, and homoeopathic medicines have no adverse reactions.

“We have to create awareness among the public. We are hopeful that in the coming days, we will go before the people with our benefits,” said Saha.

Saha informed that the number of Homeopathy Medical Officers in the state is 173 so far. The Chief Minister said that the state government is planning to recruit more Homeopathy doctors and added that in Sabroom Sub-division in southern Tripura, another integrated Ayush Hospital would be set up.

The Health Department in Tripura has significantly developed. “We are also working for the development of Homeopathy treatment,” he added.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Additional Secretary Rajiv Dutta, Director of Health Department Tapan Majumder, Director of Medical Education H.P. Sharma, Director of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Anjan Das, Joint Director of the National Health Mission Arup Deb, along with other eminent doctors, were present at the event.
