Guwahati, Jan 20 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday that the state is proactively preparing its workforce for an increasingly automated and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven future, leveraging its young demographic advantage and focusing on industry-aligned skill development.
Speaking on the second day of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting here, CM Sarma shared how Assam is reshaping its skilling ecosystem to meet the demands of emerging technologies and future-ready industries.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said Assam is "rewriting the training playbook" to ensure that its workforce remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
Highlighting key initiatives, CM Sarma said the Assam Skill Development University, along with several complementary programmes, has been positioned at the centre of the state's skilling strategy.
He noted that industry-friendly curricula and practical, employment-oriented training modules are being embedded across programmes to align human capital development with market needs.
"Given our young demography, it is imperative that we equip our youth with relevant skills for an AI-enabled and automated environment," CM Sarma said, adding that the state is moving beyond traditional training models to adopt future-focused approaches.
The Chief Minister also pointed to Assam's growing strength in advanced manufacturing, saying that the state hosts one of the most digitally advanced manufacturing facilities in the world.
He said such cases demonstrate Assam's readiness to integrate cutting-edge technology with industrial growth, while simultaneously generating skilled employment opportunities.
The session witnessed an engaging exchange of ideas among global leaders and policymakers.
Chief Minister Sarma was joined on the panel by Kevin Stitt, Gretchen Whitmer, Benjamin Haddad, and Kiva Allgood.
According to CM Sarma, the discussion focused on preparing workforces for technological disruption, the role of governments in skill transformation and the importance of collaboration between industry, academia and policymakers.
Assam is attending the World Economic Forum for the first time this year.
Officials said the state's participation has generated considerable interest among global stakeholders, particularly in areas such as skilling, manufacturing, semiconductors and digital transformation, positioning Assam as an emerging destination for future-oriented investments.
