Guwahati, July 15 The Assam down town University (AdtU), one of the leading private varsities of the region based in Guwahati, has launched a scholarship programme of up to Rs one crore for students across the country, stating that the institution has a variety of placement driven courses.

A statement issued by the AdtU said that students who have appeared in Higher Secondary (Class XII) exams from any stream arts, science or commerce or have already obtained their results are eligible to register for the scholarship test that is scheduled on July 25. The willing candidates can register their names free of cost on or before July 22.

The 60-minute online test will carry questions in multiple choice format with no negative marking.

The statement said that the English and general knowledge sections would be compulsory for all the students, while they can opt for other papers from their respective subjects or streams.

The Chancellor of AdtU, N.N. Dutta, said: "In this pandemic-hit situation, AdtU has decided to provide an opportunity to the deserving students across the country to pursue the courses that would help them fulfil their dreams.

"The scholarship will help the meritorious students from humble backgrounds and lessen the financial burden on the parents. It is an initiative to give back to the society and make it a better place."

AdtU Vice-Chancellor N.C. Talukdar said: "This is the first time that AdtU has launched such a mega scholarship programme and we plan to make it an annual affair. We will hold the Common Scholarship Test nationally so that all students get a chance to be benefitted by the programme."
