Botswana President Dr Mokgweetsi EK Masisi and Lesotho Prime Minister Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane on Wednesday extended their best wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the BJP-led NDA recorded a thumping victory in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections.

"President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi conveyed felicitations to PM @narendramodi on his electoral victory in #LokSabhaElections2019 and the conduct of free and fair elections," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

"Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Dr. Motsoahae Thomas Thabane sent a congratulatory letter to PM @narendramodi wishing him on the electoral victory in #LokSabhaElections2019," he said in another tweet.

Riding on muscular nationalism and a strident anti-Congress plank spearheaded by Modi, the BJP on May 23 got an overwhelming majority in the Lok Sabha, crossing on its own the 300 seat mark while storming back to power for the second consecutive term.

The BJP, which won 282 seats in 2014, improved its tally by notching up 303 seats.

Along with its NDA allies, the number swelled to 353 in the 543-member Lower House of the Parliament.

Modi will take oath for a second consecutive term as Prime Minister on Friday at 7 pm in Rashtrapati Bhavan, along with members of the Union Council of Ministers.

The ceremony, which may last more than an hour, in the open will see the attendance of a few thousand guests including heads of government of BIMSTEC countries and Mauritius and Kyrgyzstan, political leaders, captains of industry, overseas friends of the BJP and others.
