California sheriff confirmed that the gunman who opened fire at the team of Tulare County Sheriff was shot dead on Thursday, April 9, in Porterville. The armed suspect killed a deputy during a confrontation when they visited to serve an eviction notice.
"We intentionally ran him over, kern county sheriff's office. Do not shoot at cops. You shoot at cops, we gonna run you over," a California sheriff chief said during a media briefing about the firing that took the life of a cop. He said he got run over and got what he deserved.
The incident occurred at around 10.20 am (US local time) on Thursday near Brian Lane and Newcomb Street, where Tulare County Sheriff’s Office detectives were serving an eviction notice when the suspect, David Morales (60), opened fire on the team, killing a Deputy.
A gunfight erupted between the suspect, Morales and the detectives initially. After receiving the information, Porterville police officers and sheriff’s deputies arrived to help.

Gunbattle between the suspect and police was stopped for about 15 minutes before Morales came from the back and fired again, this time exchanging gunfire with both the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and the Porterville Police Department.
One deputy was shot and rushed to Sierra View District, where he died at 11:57 am, Boudreaux confirmed. Deputy has been identified as Detective Randy Hoppert of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. Boudreaux said the officer was a father and that his wife is four months pregnant.
