An oil refinery located on Iran’s Lavan Island was targeted in an attack on Wednesday morning, just hours after a ceasefire in the conflict had been announced, according to a report by AP citing Iranian state television. The incident took place around 10 a.m. local time, as per the report. Emergency teams, including firefighters, were deployed to the site and were working to control the fire that broke out at the facility following the strike. No injuries or fatalities have been reported so far. Iranian officials have not confirmed who was behind the attack on the refinery. The strike occurred soon after the ceasefire announcement, although the report did not provide additional details regarding the ceasefire or the broader conflict.

An oil refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island was struck in what officials described as an “enemy attack” on Wednesday, just hours after a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States came into effect. The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company confirmed the development, as reported by Shana, the Iranian Oil Ministry’s news outlet.

According to the company, the strike occurred at around 10:00 a.m. local time. No casualties were reported in the incident. Emergency response teams, including safety personnel and firefighters, were immediately dispatched to control the fire and secure the affected area. The attack took place despite a ceasefire agreement announced a day earlier between the United States and Iran. The truce was reached at the last moment to avert the large-scale destruction that US President Donald Trump had warned of.

Iran, the United States, and Israel had agreed to the temporary ceasefire, allowing Trump to pull back from threats of a massive bombing campaign that he had said could devastate Iran. However, hostilities resumed on Wednesday, not only in Iran but also across Gulf Arab nations.

Trump later called the agreement a “total and complete victory” for the United States, reported AFP. He stated that Washington would pause its military actions against Iran for two weeks, while Tehran agreed to temporarily reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil transportation.
