Explosions reported across Tehran, Iran, on Saturday morning, February 28, as Israeli military forces launched what is said to be a 'preventive' attack against Iran, the Israeli defence minister said. Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency reported three explosions in downtown Tehran.

Witnesses report hearing explosions in Iran's capital city. According to Israeli Channel 12, this is a joint attack by Israel and the US military forces. There were no immediate comments from the Iranian government about the attack. Iran's Fars news agency reported that missiles hit University Street and the Jomhouri area in Tehran.

“The State of Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran to remove threats to the State of Israel,” Defence Minister Israel Katz said. The attack came as tensions between the US and Iran increased, with President Donald Trump warning of an attack on Tehran. The US participated in the Iran attack and was also carrying out strikes, a US official told the Wall Street Journal.

Meanwhile, a missile struck in Tehran near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reported news agency The Associated Press.  Initial reports indicated that at least 3 strikes hit sensitive locations in central Tehran and surrounding areas. Local sources said buildings linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) military intelligence wing were among the sites targeted, while further attacks were reportedly ongoing.

Iranian media reported that several missiles landed near University Street and the Republic area. Additional explosions were reported in the Seyyed Khandan locality in eastern Tehran. Unconfirmed claims circulating on regional channels suggested that Tomahawk land attack missiles may have been used alongside Israeli Air Force operations, though there has been no official confirmation.
