Kyiv [Ukraine], February 26 : Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada will always have Ukraine's back. He further emphasised that Ukrainians deserve to live in a strong democracy

Trudeau also announced new sanctions against Russia's fleet, which has been allegedly involved in exporting illegal Russian oil to global markets.

In a post on X, he said, "The fight for lasting peace cannot be won alone. That's why we're here. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and I spoke in Kyiv. I told him that Canada will always have Ukraine's back. I shared new military support from Canada to help Ukraine secure lasting peace and defend its sovereignty. In response to Russia's efforts to escape accountability for their war, I announced Canada's new sanctions against Russia's shadow fleet: ships used to evade Western sanctions and keep illegally exporting Russian oil to the world. Ukrainians deserve to live in a strong democracy, free from Russian aggression and Canada will stand side-by-side with them until that's achieved."

President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for Trudeau's fourth visit to Ukraine since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began, underscoring Canada's unwavering support.

He said that he was grateful to Trudeau for hosting the G7 leaders' meeting.

"The fourth visit of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. I am grateful to Canada for its leadership in supporting Ukrainians throughout these difficult three years and to Justin for organizing and hosting a productive G7 leaders' meeting. Canada continues to support Ukraine by providing military equipment and strengthening our energy security."

Zelenskyy added that in the meeting, Trudeau announced the provision of armored vehicles, the first transfers from the CAD (Canadian Dollars) 5 billion allocated to Ukraine from proceeds on frozen Russian assets, as well as a grant to support energy security and the restoration of civilian energy infrastructure following Russia's attacks.

"Canada continues to support Ukraine by providing military equipment and strengthening our energy security. Today, new assistant packages were announced: armored vehicles, the first transfers from the 5 billion CAD allocated to Ukraine from proceeds on frozen Russian assets, as well as a grant to support energy security and the restoration of civilian energy infrastructure following Russia's massive attacks. We deeply appreciate that you stand side by side with Ukraine in these challenging times. Thank you, Canada, for your support," Zelenskyy stated.
