Abu Dhabi, Jan 19 Indian missions and organisations across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are prepping for scaled-down Republic Day celebrations this January 26 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai will hold the annual flag-hoisting ceremonies to commemorate the day but without much fanfare, while adhering to the Covid-19 safety protocols, Gulf News said in a report.

The two ceremonies will be live-streamed for people to participate virtually.

In a statement on Monday, the Embassy announced that in-person celebrations at the mission's premises will be restricted only to staffers and personnel.

"However, the Indian community is invited to participate in the celebrations virtually as the programme will be live-streamed on our social media handles," it added.

After hoisting the flag at the Consulate, Aman Puri, the Consul General, will also attend the low-key Republic Day celebrations at the Oud Mehta campus of The Indian High School (IHS).

Meanwhile, other Indian organisations have also announced to hold events marking the day, Gulf News reported.

While Funun Arts said that it will bring together 30 artists and 60 artworks on one platform for a month-long art exhibition, members of Indian Women in Dubai (IWD), an online group for expatriate women in the Emirate, are gearing up to hold a 'Bol Gappa Pe Golgappa' contest.
