Kristi Noem, United States Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), laid off over 400 employees from her workforce. Over 200 people were fired from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, 130 people were cut from then the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and DHS Science and Technology Directorate saw 10 people cut.

According to the ABC news report, 12 Coast Guard members were also affected by job cuts in force, with an offer to support border security efforts at the southwestern border. All these workers are based out of Washington, DC, and are currently on administrative leave.

DHS spokesperson said that the Trump Administration is making sweeping cuts and reforms across the federal government to eliminate egregious waste and incompetence that has been happening for decades at the expense of the American taxpayer. The Department will save $50 million for taxpayers and incalculable value toward accountability and cutting red tape, the spokesperson told ABC News.
