Kuala Lumpur, Oct 22 Malaysia's Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to chair a special meeting with his Cabinet at his office in Putrajaya on Friday morning, sources said.

Sources privy to the matter confirmed with The Star that the meeting would take place at 9.30am (local time) and attending ministers are required to be tested with the rapid test kit antigen (RTK-Ag) method before being cleared to attend.

"It will be a face-to-face meeting," said the source briefly.

Several sources attached with ministries also confirmed that the meeting is set to take place on Friday, but remained tight-lipped on the agenda of the meeting.

However, other government sources have indicated that they are not aware of such a meeting taking place.

Cabinet meetings are usually held on Wednesdays' and it will only take place on a Friday if the Parliament is in session.

The special meeting comes following Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's call for a political ceasefire amid the party's rift with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia .

Zahid also said Umno would support the Perikatan Nasional government's initiative to help the people and country to face the Covid-19 pandemic and economic uncertainties.

Previously, Umno said it was considering withdrawing its support for Perikatan and planning to give "fresh terms" if the ruling coalition wants to pursue political cooperation through a written agreement.

The series of political twists stemmed from Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's audience with the King on October 13 where the PKR president claimed he had the "formidable and convincing" support of lawmakers to form a new government.
