About 60 per cent of the US citizens have disapproved of President Donald Trump holding rallies amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and 64 per cent have lauded former Vice President Joe Biden's decision to not hold large events.

Citing USA Today-Suffolk University poll, The Hill reported that Biden has led with an 8-point over Trump, 52 per cent to 44 per cent.

Till now despite the COVID-19 pandemic, most of Trump's rallies have been held with packed audiences.

The US President himself has politicised the wearing of masks, mocking reporters and Biden for wearing them, said The Hill.

The United States set a new record for a single day spike of COVID-19, with almost 90,000 new cases registered on Thursday, according to the data from John Hopkins University.

On Thursday, the US recorded 88,521 new coronavirus cases, an increase of 9,540 from the number of new infections recorded Wednesday, reported The Hill.

The country registered 971 deaths on Thursday.

The Johns Hopkins University data displayed that since the pandemic first hit the country, a total of 8,947,830 confirmed COVID-19 and at least 228,656 deaths have been recorded.
