A helicopter carrying six passengers crashed into the Hudson River in Manhattan in New York on Thursday, April 10. The crash was caught on camera; a video of copper falling into water like a piece of paper was recorded. The United States has witnessed several air crashes in the last few months.

The video shared on social media went viral and shows that after crashing, the copper split into two parts, and its remains fell into the Hudson River in Manhattan. According to the fire officials, the helicopter went down near Pier 40 on Wet Houston Street and West Street around 3.15 pm ET (US local time), reported TOI.

People nearby heard a loud thumping noise when the parts of the crashed helicopter fell into the water at a high speed from above. Police and fire departments immediately rushed to the spot. The reason for the crash is under investigation.

Flightradar 24, which monitors air traffic in real time, said that the aircraft involved is likely N216MH, a Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV. "We’re following reports of a helicopter crash in the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey. At this time, based on ADS-B data and the location of SAR activity, we believe the aircraft involved to be N216MH, a Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV," it posted.

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY), in its official social media post, informed that at around 3.15 in the afternoon on Thursday, the helicopter crashed into the Hudson River. "The Marnie Units of FDNY responded to waters off Pier 40 in Lower Manhattan. FDNY divers were immediately deployed into the river to begin rescue operations. Tragically, six people were pronounced dead."

“We have FDNY assets right up the road here, and we launched our boats immediately. This operation was a joint operation between the FDNY and the NYPD. Our rescue swimmers were in the water shortly after the call and recovered some of the victims. We worked very closely with the NYPD divers on this and I think this tragic day does indicate just how the spirit of cooperation between the NYPD and the FDNY is alive on the streets and in the water,” said FDNY commissioner Robert Tucker.

"The National Transportation Safety Board and the FBI are investigating the cause of the crash," said the FDNY further.
