Opposition in Pakistan to move SC against media censorship

The opposition parties in Pakistan have accused the government of censoring the media and condemned the arrests of their leaders.

The opposition parties have also decided to move the Supreme Court against the government's decision.

According to a report in 'Jang', the decision was taken in a meeting of the opposition leaders' 'Rahbar Samiti' on Monday.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, committee convenor and opposition leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Akram Khan Durrani told reporters: "Media channels are being banned. We will appeal in the Supreme Court against the political and media censorship".

He said: "The whole country is watching how rallies of opposition leaders are being stopped and they are being arrested".

The opposition leaders are not going to be cowed down by all this, said Durrani, adding that they know how to handle this.

He said that they will stage a protest at the office of the National Accountability Bureau against the arrests of former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other opposition leaders.

He also announced that the opposition will observe a 'Black Day' on July 25.

The Imran Khan government is completing its first year in office on July 25.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Pakistan People's Party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the Imran Khan government for allegedly putting a ban on media coverage of the meetings of Pakistan Muslim League leader Maryam Nawaz.
