Islamabad [Pakistan], October 24 : In a series of actions against defaulters, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) recovered PKR 474.63 million (approx.. 1.7 million USD) from 28,866 customers involved in electricity theft, Dawn News reported on Tuesday.

According to Dawn News, during an ongoing operation campaign that was initiated on Sept 1, defaulters were fined in all regions including Islamabad, Rawalpindi City, Rawalpindi Cantt, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum Region.

Chief Executive Iesco Dr Mohammad Amjad Khan stated that the recovery of electricity dues from the defaulters was being ensured in every case and no one had the right to use electricity without paying the bill. He said this during a review meeting on the performance of the ongoing campaign regarding recovery and anti-power theft, Pakistan-based news daily, Dawn News reported.

He further said that the best results were being achieved during the campaign to clean the Iesco region from the scourge of electricity theft.

According to data, Iesco's recovery teams have collected Rs220.72 million from 20,167 running defaulters, as well as Pakistan currency (PKR) 253.91 million from 8,699 dead defaulters.

Overall, during the campaign, the Iesco has recovered Rs474.63 million from 28,866 customers.

On the other hand, Iesco detection teams traced electricity theft of PKR 3.24 million units and imposed fines of PKR 150.27 million on 2,358 electricity thieves. As many as 453 FIRs were registered and 366 thieves were arrested by police.

Khan has requested consumers to be part of the campaign by reporting power theft on helpline number 118.
