Jeddah [Saudi Arabia], April 23 : Muslim World League Secretary General, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jeddah on Tuesday. Al-Issa strongly condemned the "ghastly terror attack" in Jammu and Kashmir and offered deepest condolences on the innocent lives lost.

During the meeting, PM Modi appreciated the role of the Muslim World League in promoting tolerant values, advocating moderation and advancing social cohesion and harmony, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) statement.

He commended the Muslim World League's stance against terrorism, violence and extremism. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other officials were present during the meeting.

In a statement, MEA stated, "Prime Minister recalled his meeting with the Secretary General in July 2023 in New Delhi. He appreciated the role of Muslim World League in promoting tolerant values, advocating moderation and advancing social cohesion and harmony."

"Recalling India's age-old philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam [the World is one Family] Prime Minister noted that India as a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, celebrates unity in diversity. India's incredible diversity is a valuable strength that has given shape to its vibrant society and polity. He commended the firm stand of Muslim World League against extremism, terrorism and violence," it added.

PM Modi underlined that India attaches high importance to its ties with Saudi Arabia, which has today evolved into an enduring partnership across several domains.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa took to X to share details regarding his meeting with PM Modi. He stated that they discussed the idea of holding a Diversity and Harmony Summit in India.

In a post on X, he wrote, "Today, in Jeddah, I met with the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi. The meeting discussed topics of common interest, and we also discussed the idea of holding a Diversity and Harmony Summit in India."

In view of the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his State visit to Saudi Arabia and departed from Jeddah to India on Wednesday.

PM Modi skipped the official dinner hosted by Saudi Arabia and decided to cut short his visit, according to Government of India sources. While he was originally scheduled to return tomorrow night, he will now arrive in India early Wednesday morning.

In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, "PM @narendramodi concludes his State Visit to Saudi Arabia and has emplaned for India."

PM Modi arrived in Jeddah for a State Visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. He was received by Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince, at the Royal Palace in Jeddah and accorded a ceremonial welcome. It was PM Modi's third visit to Saudi Arabia after the previous visits in 2016 and 2009.

During his visit, PM Modi and Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held talks and co-chaired the second India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council (SPC) in Jeddah on Tuesday. PM Modi invited Mohammed bin Salman to visit India for the third meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council.
