Four Indian students were among several people injured in a stabbing attack at a foreign students’ hostel in Ufa, Russia, the Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed on Saturday. The incident occurred at the sports hall of a medical university dormitory in the Bashkortostan Republic, according to local media reports.
Two police officers were also injured while attempting to restrain the attacker. The Indian Embassy described the episode as an “unfortunate incident” and said officials from the Consulate in Kazan have been dispatched to Ufa to provide assistance to the affected students.
“Several individuals, including four Indian students, have been injured. The Embassy is in close coordination with local authorities to extend all necessary support,” the statement said.
The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi has been informed, and Indian officials are closely monitoring the situation. Families of the injured students are awaiting further updates on their condition.
Russia’s Interior Ministry said the attack was carried out by a 15-year-old armed with a knife, who entered the dormitory and assaulted students, leaving several injured. During his arrest, the attacker resisted, stabbing two police officers and inflicting injuries on himself, according to Interior Ministry spokesperson Major General Irina Volk.
