National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronauts, including Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, left from the International Space station (ISS) and preparing to land on Earth after staying for more than nine months on space. The SpaceX Crew-9 capsule Dragon spacecraft will land at around 3.27 am on Wednesday (IST) Atlantic Ocean off Florida coast.
Along with Williams and Wilmore, astronauts Nick Hague and cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will also return on Earth. Indian-origin scientist Williams and his crew mate Wilmore had began their mission at the ISS on June 6, 2024, arriving aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, while Hague and Gorbunov landed on September 29 last year.
Hague and Gorbunov launched to space aboard SpaceX's Dragon Freedom spacecraft, which has been docked to the station since September and is now bringing Crew-9 back home. Crew-9 is scheduled to begin their deorbit burn at 2:41 AM IST on March 19 and splash down off the coast of Florida at 3:27 am IST.
This process of landing will take approximately one hour after the landing the astronauts will be transported to Texas for their medical checkup and will be train for Earth's gravity.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) NASA said, "@NASA will provide live coverage of Crew-9’s return to Earth from the @Space_Station, beginning with @SpaceX Dragon hatch closure preparations at 10:45pm ET Monday, March 17."
