Islamabad, Dec 10 Pakistan's law enforcement agencies foiled a major terror attack bid in Punjab province and arrested five terrorists, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said on Thursday.

According to the CTD in the provincial capital Lahore, the raid was conducted on terrorists' hideout after police were tipped off about their presence in the suburbs of the city, reports Xinhua news agency.

"Five terrorists belonging to the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan were arrested during the operation," said a CTD official.

The official added that the militants had planned to attack the civil secretariat and other key buildings in Lahore.

During the raid, police seized explosive material, weapons and hand grenades from the terrorists.

According to the anti-terrorism department, a foreign intelligence agency was financially supporting the militants and a few meetings were held between them.

The arrested militants have been transferred to an unknown location for further investigation.
