US President Donald Trump said that he was considering to convene the G7 Summit at Camp David, which had been rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Now that our country is 'transitioning back to greatness', I am considering rescheduling the G-7, on the same or similar date, in Washington, D.C., at the legendary Camp David," Xinhua news agency quoted Trump as saying in a tweet on Wednesday.

"The other members are also beginning their comeback. It would be a great sign to all - normalization," he added, without providing more details.

The abrupt announcement came as the Trump administration attempted to revive the country despite the lack of sign of a significant downward trend in COVID-19 infections.

The US currently accounts for the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 1,551,668 and 93,431, respectively, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

The White House said in March that the summit, originally scheduled to take place at Camp David in June, was cancelled due to the pandemic, and leaders would have a video-conference instead.

Camp David is the country retreat for the US President, some 68 miles from Washington D.C.
