US President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized the American media for reporting about divisions and complicated ties between the countries participating in the ongoing G7 summit, apart from talking about the economic slowdown and the risk of recession.

"The worse the better, anything to make my election more difficult to win," Trump tweeted.

"Well, we are having very good meetings, the leaders are getting along very well, and our country, economically, is doing great."

Trump struck a conciliatory tone on Saturday during a long working meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, the host of the G7 summit, after taking an aggressive approach in both domestic and international affairs last week, reports Efe news.

"Once in a while, we go at it just a little bit, not very much... Everybody's getting along. I think we will accomplish a lot this weekend," a friendly Trump told reporters.

The US President is set to meet British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday, their first meeting since the latter assumed office, with Brexit and the bilateral trade agreement dominating the agenda.

Apart from participating in the sessions of the first day of the summit - attended by leaders of the seven most developed countries of the world and other invitees - Trump will also meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday.

The G7 nations comprises France, Germany, the UK, Italy, the US, Canada and Japan
