London, Nov 6 The UK has added Germany and Sweden in its coronavirus quarantine list, which means travellers returning from both countries will have to isolate for two weeks, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced.

The measure, announced by Shapps on Thursday, will come into force from 4 a.m. (0400 GMT) on Saturday.

"Travel corridors do remain critical to the government's Covid-19 response, keeping imported cases down," Shapps said on Twitter.

No countries are being removed from the coronavirus quarantine list this week, according to Shapps.

Last week, Cyprus and Lithuania were added to the quarantine list.

The UK government is believed to be using a rate of 100 as the threshold above which quarantine measures are considered, according to Sky News.

The latest move came as England entered a month-long lockdown on Thursday to quell the resurgence of coronavirus.

Under the new lockdown, which will last until December 2, households are banned from mixing indoors or in private gardens, unless in a support bubble.

All non-essential retailers, leisure and entertainment venues will be shut, with pubs and restaurants will be closed except for takeaways.

The UK's overall caseload and death toll stood at 1,126,469 and 48,210, respectively.
