UK court orders extradition of Nirav Modi to India in PNB scam case

In a major decision a  UK, court on Thursday ruled that a prima facie case has been established against Modi and that he has a case to answer for in India. The Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London will deliver on Thursday an order on the extradition of fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi, who is accused of routing transactions of about Rs 13,600 crore through fraudulent Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) of Punjab National Bank (PNB) along with his uncle Mehul Choksi, to India.

Both Nirav and Mehul had left India in the first week of January 2018, weeks before the scam was revealed. UK judge ruled  that Nirav Modi will be given adequate medical treatment and mental health care at Arthur Road Jail, Mumbai.UK judge dismisses Nirav Modi defence claims that law & justice minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tried to influence case against the billionaire. The court said there was no evidence to say that Nirav Modi would not get justice if he was extradited.
