Tripoli, Feb 25 The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has reaffirmed its support for the reform of the security sector in Libya.

"UNSMIL notes with concern attempts to undermine the integrity of Libyan institutions, including the Ministry of Interior," UNSMIL tweeted.

"We reiterate our full support for reform of the security sector & call for application of the law," it added.

A day earlier, the UN-backed Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashaga said armed groups obstruct and extort security services in the capital Tripoli, Xinhua news agency reported.

"It is unfortunate that a security service is extorted by some militias. A militia captured Naji al-Zubi, a competent officer of the Tripoli Security Directorate," Bashaga told a press conference in Tripoli.

Local media accused the captured Zubi of committing treason and working for the rival east-based army which is carrying out an armed conflict against the UN-backed government over control of Tripoli.

Libya has been suffering political division and insecurity ever since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
