Washington DC [US], March 11 : US President Donald Trump on Monday (local time) endorsed his support for the Head of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, saying that he would buy a brand new Tesla the following morning.

Calling Musk, a 'great American', Trump said that Musk was "putting it on the line" in order to help the US.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, "To Republicans, Conservatives, and all great Americans, Elon Musk is "putting it on the line" in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World's great automakers, and Elon's "baby," in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for."

Trump added that the left tried to do the same with him even during the Presidential elections in 20245, but failed.

"They tried to do it to me at the 2024 Presidential Ballot Box, but how did that work out?" he stated.

Trump further rhetorically asked why should Musk be punished for working to make America Great Again (MAGA- his catchphrase).

"In any event, I'm going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American. Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN???" he stated.

To this, Musk thanked Trump saying, "Thank you, President".

The post came after Tesla faced major backlash on Monday as protesters vandalised Tesla showrooms, charging stations and Tesla vehicles, CNN reported.

There have also been peaceful protests at many Tesla locations, which involve demonstrators carrying signs and chanting "Elon Musk has got to go" in response to the slashing of federal jobs and budgets by Musk's Department of Government Efficiency.

Though the protests have been peaceful, there have also been widespread reports of vandalism. While there have been no reports of injuries, the incidents pose a potential financial problem for Tesla. The company faces declining sales for the first time due to increased competition and backlash over Musk's contentious role in the Trump administration, as per CNN.
