Shortly after Democratic nominee Joe Biden defeated Trump in the closely-fought presidential election, Kamala Harris tweeted a video of her phone call with Biden and wrote, "We did it."Kamala Harris tweeted a video of her calling Joe Biden to congratulate him as he won the U.S. presidential election on Saturday. Harris will be the first woman, the first Black American and the first American of Asian descent to serve as vice president.

"While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last," Ms Harris said in her first address to the nation as Vice President-Elect. "Every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibility," she said in the victory rally in Delaware. Harris, 55, is a California senator, the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother. She is also a former prosecutor whose grilling of Trump's appointees and unflappable cool has transported her to Democratic Party stardom. Harris won her first election in 2003 and became San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010, she became the first woman of colour to be elected California's attorney general. Harris was elected to the US Senate in 2016.
