On Apara Ekadashi, wake up early and prepare for worship. Make a resolution to observe the Ekadashi fast and worship Lord Vishnu. Place an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu on a platform and invite him to be present. Perform an Abhishek (ritual bathing) with Panchamrut (a mixture of five ingredients) and offer it as Naivedya (food offering). Then, complete the main Abhishek. Offer Lord Vishnu clothing, sandalwood paste, Akshata (unbroken rice), Tulsi leaves, flowers, and fruits. Offer incense, a lamp, and Naivedya, followed by the Aarti (a ritual of waving light). Offer a sincere prayer and distribute Prasad (blessed food). If possible, recite the Vishnu Sahasranama (a hymn with one thousand names of Vishnu). Donate according to your ability. If you cannot perform the Shodashopchar Puja (a worship with sixteen offerings), perform the Panchopchar Puja (a worship with five offerings). Observe the Ekadashi fast according to your family's customs and traditions.
End the Apara Ekadashi fast by staying awake during the night, singing devotional songs (Bhajans) and hymns (Kirtans). Maintain faith and eat only fruits or a Sattvic diet (pure vegetarian diet), avoiding strong-flavored foods. The day after Ekadashi, wake up early, complete your morning rituals, and resolve to end the fast. Worship Lord Vishnu with devotion, expressing thanks for the successful completion of the fast. Avoid using harsh language and feeling envious during the fast. Humbly ask for forgiveness for any unintentional errors made while observing the fast.
