As the film industry remembers veteran actor late Amrish Puri on his 87th birth anniversary, today's' Google Doodle also pays tribute to the renowned Bollywood personality.

The actor born in Nawanshahr, Punjab in 1932, is remembered for playing iconic villainous roles in Hindi cinema as well as other Indian and international film industries.

Puri, who worked in more than 400 films, is known for his iconic roles as 'Mogambo' in the 1987 cult classic 'Mr. India,' 'Dilwale Dulha Le Jayenge,' where portrayed the role of a protective father who despite living in London for years hadn't forgotten his roots.

In 'Nayak: The Real Hero,' the actor impressed the audience with his stellar performance as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

The actor came to Mumbai following the footsteps of his siblings -- Madan Puri and Chaman Puri, who were established actors, known for playing villainous roles.

Puri went on to work in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Hollywood, Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films. Though he was successful in many regional films, he is best known for his work in Bollywood cinema.

Today's Google Doodle which is dedicated to the ace actor features a sketch of the actor on an orange background.

The actor died on January 12, 2005, after suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare kind of blood cancer.
