Holika Dahan is celebrated a day before, rang panchami, this  symbolizes the victory of good over evil. On this day people create a bonfire which is known as Holika and do puja. As per Drik Panchang, Holi will be celebrated on March 4, 2026, while Holika Dahan will be observed on March 3, 2026. The Purnima Tithi begins at 5:55 PM on March 2 and concludes at 5:07 PM on March 3. According to astrology, both the Bhadra period and the Sutak period of the eclipse are considered inauspicious for any auspicious or auspicious work.

Devotees seek the proper time to burn Holika to avoid sin. While the full moon ends at 5:07 pm on March 3rd according to the almanac, the burning time should be determined by scriptural rules and eclipse purity.

Holika Dahan Muhurat: 6:47 PM to 8:50 PM

Total Duration: 2 hours 28 minutes

Bhadra Poonch: 1:25 AM to 2:35 AM (March 4)

Bhadra Mukharat: 2:35 AM to 4:30 AM (March 4)

Sutak Period and Effects of the Lunar Eclipse

The lunar eclipse on March 3, 2026, will be visible in Indian Standard Time from moonrise at 6:26 PM to 6:46 PM. The religiously significant Sutak period will begin at 9:39 AM that day and last until the eclipse ends at 6:46 PM, during which worship and religious rituals are prohibited. Therefore, Holika Dahan rituals should be performed after 6:46 PM.

Bhadra Timing and Auspicious Time for Dahan

This year, Holika Dahan should be performed between 6:47 pm and 8:50 pm on March 3rd, after the eclipse ends. Bhadra begins at 1:25 am on March 4th, so there is no Bhadra Dosha during the evening, making this timeframe auspicious for burning Holika and eliminating negative energy. Burning Holika during Bhadra Mukha is considered inauspicious.
