The month of Magh is considered highly auspicious, with festivals such as Ganesh Jayanti, Vasant Panchami, Rathsaptami, Bhishmashtami, and Bhishmadvadashi celebrated during this time. One of the most important fasts observed after Magh Purnima and Gurupratipada is Sankashti Chaturthi. In some regions, this Sankashti Chaturthi is also known as Dwijapriya Sankashti Chaturthi.

Magh Sankashti Chaturthi 2025 Date & Muhurat

The Sankashti Chaturthi fast observed on Vadya Chaturthi in Magh, falls on Sunday, 16 February 2025. The auspicious timings on this day are:

  • Brahma Muhurat: 05:16 AM – 06:07 AM
  • Vijay Muhurat: 02:28 PM – 03:12 PM
  • Godhuli Muhurat: 06:10 PM – 07:35 PM
  • Amrit Muhurat: 09:48 PM – 11:36 PM

 

This Dwijapriya Sankashti Chaturthi aligns with Sarvartha Siddhi and Amrit Siddhi Yoga, making it even more significant.

Significance of Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat

Lord Ganesha is worshipped on Sankashti Chaturthi as the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta), the god of wisdom, and a universal deity. Observing this fast is believed to bring blessings, prosperity, and the fulfillment of desires. Ganesh devotees across India follow this tradition every month with great devotion.

How to Observe Magh Sankashti Chaturthi Fast?

  1. Fasting & Worship: Devotees observe a strict fast throughout the day. The worship of Lord Ganesha is performed using Shodashopachara or Panchopachara rituals.
  2. Ganesh Abhishek: The idol of Lord Ganesha is bathed with pure water. If possible, Atharvashirsha should be recited 21 times during Abhishek. Alternatively, one can chant "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah"108 times.
  3. Offerings: Flowers, incense, lamps, and Naivedya (food offerings) are presented to Lord Ganesha, followed by the distribution of Prasad.
  4. Moon Worship: After themoon rises, offerings are made to the moon before breaking the fast. Durva (grass) and Hibiscus flowers are essential in Ganesha Puja. 

Importance of Offering Durva in Ganesh Puja

Offering 21 blades of Durva to Lord Ganesha is considered highly auspicious. It is believed to bring wisdom, happiness, and prosperity. According to religious scriptures, Ganesh Puja is incomplete without Durva, as it enhances the virtue of worship.
