The holy month of Ramadan is near, and the Muslims in Mumbai are preparing for the grand festival, which will likely be on March 1 or 2, 2025, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. According to the hadith (Islamic book), the holy book Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in this month.

If the first Roza (fasting) happens on March 1, 2025, it would be a rare celestial event as both Islamic and Western calendars will have the same date. This rare phenomenon occurs roughly every 33 years. Muslims follow the lunar calendar, which consists of 12 months, each lasting either 29 or 30 days and is based on the moon's cycle, while the Gregorian calendar is based on the solar cycle.

Ramadan 2025 Timetable For Mumbai

The month of Ramzan 2025 begins after the end of the month of Sha'ban. After the end of Ramadan, Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the month of Ramazan and the beginning of Shawwal.

In India, the crescent moon sighting for Ramadan 2025 is expected on the evening of Saturday, March 1, 2025. If the moon is not visible, the first Roza (fasting) will begin on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Local moon sighting committees like the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Mumbai will make the final decision.

Fasting for Ramzan is observed by Muslims from dawn to dusk; between this, drinking water and consuming any type of food is not allowed. Muslims break their fast after the sun sat by eating dates, followed by fruit and snacks, while Sehri is generally observed in the morning before sunrise, around 10 to 15 minutes before the call for Fajr prayer (Azaan).
