Celebrity chef Kelvin Cheung, who is a hit among Bollywood celebs for his culinary skills has been arrested by Mumbai Police this morning, according to a report in Pinkvilla. Kelvin Cheung was arrested in Delhi and was brought by train from Delhi to Mumbai on Monday morning. fter arriving in Mumbai he was taken to the Khar Police Station after which he will be shifted to Taloja Jail in the afternoon. According to the report in Pinkvilla, a first information report (FIR) was registered against Kelvin Cheung and his father Chi Ping Cheung under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code on the basis of a complaint filed by Ranjit Bindra, co-owner of Bastian.
Hindustan Times had reported that as per the police complaint, Kelvin Cheung had been working as a chef at Ranjit Bindra’s office for a long time.Gajanan Kabdule, senior inspector of Khar police station was quoted saying by Hindustan Times, that while Kelvin worked in the Bandra restaurant, he had offered Ranjit Bindra to invest in his plans to invest in popular restaurant franchises in Chicago and LA with the help of his father. As per the report, Ranjit Bindra had invested USD 200,000 in multiple transactions. The report also stated that Cheung abruptly quit his association with the restaurant in 2019 after saying that his father passed away. Later, Ranjit Bindra’s discussion with Kelvin Cheung about the investments didn’t seem to go well, and Cheung also allegedly started ignoring Bindra. Now, Pinkvilla reported that after all verifications and investigation, Mumbai Police has arrested Kelvin Cheung. Born in Canada, raised in Chicago, and based in New Delhi, Kelvin is a third-generation chef who spent the better part of his childhood training and cooking in kitchens in unfamiliar places. His culinary style draws inspiration from his traditional Hong Kong Chinese heritage, his North American upbringing, his French training and even on the rare occasion his adopted Indian home.
