Shab-e-Barat, also known as the 15th of Sha'ban or the night of forgiveness (Maghfirat), is observed 15 days before the holy month of Ramadan, in mid-Sha'ban, every year. When Is Shab-e-Barat 2026 in India?
The crescent moon of Sha'ban 1447 was sighted on January 21. According to the Islamic calendar, the new day starts after sunset (after maghrib), therefore, this year, Shab-e-Barat will be observed from Tuesday evening, February 3, till Wednesday evening, February 4.

How Is Night of Forgiveness Observed?
On Shab-e-Barat, Muslims pray to the almighty Allah for forgiveness for their sins and ask the almighty to give them strength to reach the holy month of Ramadan or Ramzan. Some believe that on this night, the fate for the next year is decided. On this auspicious occasion, people stay awake all night in mosques or at home, praying. Some recite the holy Quran, visit the graves of their ancestors and pray for them and ask for protection from the fire of hell.
Some believe that those who pray on the night of forgiveness and ask for mercy from Allah have their sins forgiven. According to beliefs, on this night, Allah writes people's fate for the coming year. People prepare special dishes and decorate their homes for the occasion. Religious gatherings are also held in many places.
