Tips to Avoid Heatstroke: We are already having to endure the scorching heat typically felt in May and June—and it is only March. The unbearable heat has left people in a miserable state. Stepping out of the house during the afternoon hours carries the risk of suffering from the adverse effects of the sun. Just as the sun heats up the outside environment, it causes the body to heat up internally. In such conditions, it is crucial to follow certain practices to protect oneself from the sun and keep the body cool from within. If you are looking for ways to combat the heat, this article will prove beneficial for you. This is because nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar recently posted a video on 'X' (formerly Twitter) sharing effective measures to protect against the heat. So, let's take a look at the remedies she has suggested.

Everyone naturally wants to protect themselves from the heat, as suffering from sun exposure can lead to significant health complications. Even the slightest negligence when stepping out of the house can trigger issues such as heatstroke, fatigue, dehydration, dizziness, and various gastrointestinal ailments.

Measures to Protect Against the Sun

The Magic of Coconut Water and Sabja Seeds: High temperatures lead to excessive sweating, causing the body's water levels to deplete. Rujuta advises making it a point to drink a glass of coconut water every day before 12:00 PM. However, do not consume just plain coconut water; add one teaspoon of *Sabja* seeds (sweet basil seeds) to it. It is also important to remember that *Sabja* seeds and Chia seeds are distinct from one another; for this remedy, you must use *Sabja* seeds. Coconut water is rich in electrolytes, potassium, and manganese. Consequently, it acts as a natural coolant that not only keeps the body hydrated but also aids in improving digestion.

Include Curd or Buttermilk in Your Lunch: During these hot days, make sure to include either curd (yogurt) or buttermilk as part of your lunch. Rujuta suggests adding a pinch of roasted cumin powder to the curd or buttermilk for added flavor and health benefits. Curd, buttermilk, and cumin seeds possess cooling properties. They help soothe internal body heat and also ensure that the body remains well-hydrated.

Bananas in the Evening or After Dinner: A banana is not merely a fruit; it serves as a highly effective remedy for numerous stomach-related issues. According to Rujuta, one should make it a point to eat a banana in the evening or after dinner. Bananas are extremely beneficial for the digestive system, primarily because they are rich in electrolytes. Consuming them keeps the stomach feeling light and facilitates easy bowel movements in the morning.

Special Tips for Women: Rujuta Diwekar has specifically addressed women who are currently in the perimenopausal or menopausal phase. During this stage of life, hormonal fluctuations tend to slow down the digestive process and lead to the accumulation of gas in the stomach. Therefore, women in this phase should take extra care of their health during this period and diligently follow the tips mentioned above.
