Vaishakh Purnima, the full moon day in the Hindu month of  Vaishakh, is highly significant. The Padma Purana states that meritorious acts performed during Vaishakh, especially on Purnima, yield spiritual rewards equal to an Ashwamedha Yagna, absolving sins. On this day, one should rise during Brahma Muhurat, bathe in a sacred river, and worship Lord Vishnu. Donating food grains and water, revered as Mahadan, is essential.

Pandit Rakesh Jha elaborates on suitable donations for Vaishakh Purnima. This year, Vaishakh Purnima falls on Friday, May 1st. After a sacred bath during the auspicious Muhurat, donating a vessel filled with water is crucial, especially as summer heat peaks. Scripturally, quenching the thirst of another through water donation is profoundly meritorious, granting liberation from inadvertent sins and fostering peace and harmony.

Donate Umbrellas and Fans: On Vaishakh Purnima, after your ritual bath and worship of Lord Vishnu, donate an umbrella to someone in need for relief from the summer heat. If possible, also donate fans. These acts are believed to increase happiness and good fortune while easing life's challenges.

Donate Seven Types of Grains:  Scriptures consider donating water and food grains a great act. On Vaishakh Purnima, donate water and seven types of grains to the needy, according to your ability. Donating rice, wheat, barley, and chickpeas is especially auspicious, believed to ensure abundance and improve the donor's financial well-being.

Donate Honey and Sesame Seeds:  The Padma Purana states that bathing early, giving charity, and fasting during Vaishakh, especially on Vaishakh Purnima, is highly auspicious. Donating honey and sesame seeds to the poor on this day, while observing Brahmacharya and meditating on Lord Vishnu, is believed to absolve sins and foster positivity.

Hindu scriptures and the Padma Purana highlight the importance of performing Pind Daan on Vaishakh Purnima to please ancestors and secure their blessings. Undertaking this ritual on this day is believed to alleviate Pitra Dosh, removing life's obstacles and fostering peace, happiness, and prosperity at home. Offering food and Dakshina to Brahmins on Vaishakh Purnima is also highly recommended.
