Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was accorded full state honours at his residence in Katewadi on Thursday (January 29, 2026). His last rites will be held at Vidya Prathisthan ground in Baramati at 11 a.m. The mortal remains are being taken to the Vidya Pratishthan ground for the last rites.
Ajit Pawar and four others were killed on Wednesday (January 28) after an aircraft -- a Bombardier Learjet 45 -- carrying them crashed in Pune district. He was travelling to Baramati from Mumbai to address public meetings as part of the campaign for the February 5 zilla parishad elections in the State. Nephew of Sharad Pawar, cousin of MP Supriya Sule, he is survived by his mother Ashatai Pawar, wife and Rajya Sabha MP Sunetratai Pawar, sons Parth and Jay Pawar.
The crash killed 66-year-old Pawar, his personal security officer, his attendant and the two cockpit crew, pilot-in-command Sumit Kapur and first officer Shambhavi Pathak, when the Learjet 45, operated by Delhi-based VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, went down during its second attempt to land at Baramati’s table-top airstrip around 8:45 am.The official familiar with the investigation said the last words heard from the crew were “oh s***.”A team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) visited the crash site Wednesday evening to begin a forensic investigation into the tragedy.
