Allegations of phone tapping have begun to heat up politics in the Maharashtra. Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole had made a sensational allegation in the Assembly a few days back.He had said that his phone was being tapped when he was a BJP MP in 2016-17. Now Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has backed Nana Patole's allegations.

Ajit Pawar said, there is a fact in Nana Patole's complaint about phone tapping. Phone taping of political leaders & public representatives was done by giving false names. It has happened in Nana Patole's case too. HM has announced a high-level committee to enquire.

If it's done for national security or public safety then it's fine. But it is completely wrong if someone is tapping the phones of political leaders & public representatives for their personal gain. It is against the law & not right in the democracy, Pawar added.

Patole had earlier alleged that phones of several politicians and bureaucrats were tapped between 2014-2019 during the BJP-led government in the state.

Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil had on Tuesday after Patole raised the issue of the phone tapping in the state Assembly announced that the government will probe allegations.
