In response to growing concerns around road safety and tyre-related accidents, Leaders Club, Nagpur, in collaboration with Ajmera Tyres, organised an Accident Prevention Awareness Drive on 10 June 2023 at RBI Square. The initiative focused on educating motorists about the risks associated with tyre bursts and the importance of preventive maintenance in reducing road accidents.
The drive was built on a simple but powerful idea: awareness is the first step toward prevention. With increasing traffic density and rising vehicle speeds, tyre health often becomes an overlooked aspect of road safety. Yet experts consistently point out that worn-out tyres, improper air pressure, and delayed maintenance are contributing factors in many avoidable accidents.
During the event, volunteers and organisers engaged directly with motorists, distributing informational material and explaining basic safety checks that every vehicle owner should perform routinely. These included monitoring tyre tread depth, maintaining correct air pressure, checking wheel alignment, and ensuring timely tyre replacement. The objective was not only to inform, but also to encourage responsible driving practices and proactive vehicle care.
Representatives from Ajmera Tyres explained how preventive maintenance can significantly reduce the risk of sudden tyre failures, particularly during long-distance travel or in high-temperature conditions. Tyre bursts, in particular, can lead to sudden loss of vehicle control, posing serious risks not only to drivers but also to passengers and other road users.
The drive received support from key public and community figures, including Mrs. Neelam Mulmule and Mr. Chaitanya Yawale from Ajmera Tyres, along with DCP Traffic Chetna Tidke. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration between private organisations, civic authorities, and community groups in addressing public safety challenges. Such partnerships demonstrate how shared responsibility can lead to meaningful impact.
Volunteers played a central role in making the campaign effective. They translated technical information into practical, easy-to-follow advice that motorists could immediately apply. Many participants appreciated the initiative, observing that while road safety campaigns often emphasise speed control, helmet usage, or seatbelt compliance, tyre safety does not always receive adequate attention.
Organisers stressed that sustained efforts are essential to creating lasting behavioural change. While a single campaign can spark awareness, consistent engagement helps embed safe practices into everyday driving habits. Continued initiatives of this nature, they noted, can contribute to a safer road environment by reducing accidents linked to tyre neglect and promoting a culture of responsible vehicle ownership.
The event also reinforced that road safety is a shared responsibility. Authorities can enforce regulations and improve infrastructure, but individual motorists play a critical role through routine maintenance and cautious driving. Simple actions, such as periodic tyre inspections, can make a meaningful difference in preventing accidents.
By bringing together community groups, traffic authorities, and an experienced automotive service provider, the awareness drive demonstrated how collaborative action can amplify impact. The organisers expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue, reinforcing the message that safer roads begin with informed, vigilant, and responsible vehicle owners.
