Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who is facing allegations of corruption levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, has tendered his resignation to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday.

Deshmukh was accused by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh of recovering Rs 100 crore. The allegation had caused a stir in the state. Opposition groups called for the resignation of Anil Deshmukh. The developments come after Bombay High Court on Monday ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to start a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into corruption allegations against Deshmukh by the former Mumbai Police Commissioner.

After which political activities in the state gained momentum. Anil Deshmukh resigned as Home Minister and was replaced by Dilip Walse Patil. After resigning on Monday, Anil Deshmukh reached Delhi  to file his petition in Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court order. For this, he met Congress leader and senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi at his residence last night.

Though Anil Deshmukh is currently in Delhi, CBI officials are arriving in Mumbai today. The CBI is coming to Mumbai to investigate. As per the order of the High Court, a preliminary inquiry will be held into the allegations of recovery of Rs 100 crore within 15 days and if any facts are found in the inquiry, the High Court has also directed the CBI to register an FIR.
